Bias

True bias is a cut made on a 45 degree angle to the selvedge. This direction allows for the most stretch. Bias refers to any line diagonal to the crosswise and lengthwise grains. Most bias pieces are laid on the true bias: the grain line arrow and the pattern's layout instructions will help you align your pattern pieces.

Lining

Fabric, usually silky, that covers the construction details on the inside of the garment, A lining reduces the wearing strain on clothing, extending the useful life of the lined garment.

Fusible

Fabric that has a heat sensitive adhesive on one side that enables it to bind to another fabric.

Casing

Folded and stitched "tunnel" that elastics or ties threaded through.

Hand

The way a fabric feels to the touch: smooth soft, crisp, etc.

Drape

How a fabric hangs in a garment.

Classroom Etiquette:

Welcome to our classroom! We’re delighted you are here and want to ensure your class experience is fun, creative, and successful.
[1] Shop Talk: We recognize you have many options for where you shop for your quilting supplies and thank you for shopping with us.
· Please refrain from talking about all those other places while you are in our shop and the classroom. It’s hard on our feelings – and our ability to stay in business.
[2] Alternate Techniques: There are many different ways to do the same task. Our instructors will teach one specific way during the class to make it easier for the entire class to follow along.
· Please refrain from sharing those alternate techniques with your neighbors – it can be confusing for them.
[3] Be Prepared: Come to class on time – with all your required supplies ready to go. Your fabric, cutting tools, and sewing machine if needed, should be ready to use when you arrive.
· If the instructor asks you to pre-cut or prep anything before class, please do that before you arrive so you don't slow down the class.
[4] Conversations During Class: Classes are a wonderful time to socialize and make new friends, however – everyone has also come to the classroom to learn from the teacher.
· Please limit socializing to times when the teacher is not demonstrating a technique or sharing content.
[5] Fragrance: Many people suffer from allergies and are unable to tolerate fragrances.
· Please refrain from wearing fragrances of any kind while in the classroom.
[6] Phone Calls: Our cell phones are a wonderful design tool. They are also very useful for taking and sharing pictures of our progress. Taking calls during the class is distracting to your classmates and the Instructor.
· Please step outside the classroom if you need to make or receive any important calls.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

Class fees are non-refundable. Please check your calendar carefully before committing to a class enrollment. Cancellations must be made no later than 3 business days BEFORE the date of your class*, in order to maintain a class credit. Failure to do so means forfeiture of your class fee. If arrangements are made before the deadline, students may transfer fees, as a credit, to another class (subject to availability). There are no make-up classes for any classes missed. If you miss one class in a series you may not be able to continue with the series without first scheduling a private lesson ($35 per hour) to get caught up. Please keep in mind that Private Lessons are not always available.

We know that’s a strict policy, but it helps us get wait-listers into cancelled spots in a timely fashion. We’re happy to discuss your dilemma on a case-to-case basis. In the unlikely event that Sew And Sews Place cancels class you can either opt to keep a credit for a future class with us, or choose to receive a full refund.

We accept Cash and POS payments.
